Tanner Pruitt

Tanner grew up in Macon, Georgia and earned degrees from the University of Virginia and Iowa Writers’ Workshop before moving to San Francisco, where he worked for several years at the litigation & investigation software company, Everlaw. Outside of work, Tanner coaches the 4x national champion undergraduate mock trial team at the University of Virginia, and was an assistant coach for the program’s two most recent national championships in 2017 and 2024. He serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Poetry Center, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024, and volunteers as a poetry reader for Quarterly West. At home in the kitchen, Tanner is an enthusiastic amateur vegetarian cook.

In addition to his work with the Chicago Poetry Center, Tanner supports programming for writers of all ages at institutions across the country, including through the Young Writers Workshop, where he was formerly an assistant director; Bucknell University’s Stadler Center for Poetry and its Seminar for Undergraduate Poets; and the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference. Please support them, too.
